In Reel Deep is an educational fishing game set in the beautiful Raja Ampat in the West Papua province of Indonesia.
In Reel Deep is an interactive game for children, highlighting one of the United Nations’ seventeen Sustainable Development Goals. In this project Goal 14: Life Below
Water is the focus, with overfishing being
the overarching topic of this project.
In Reel Deep emphasises the effects of overfishing, specifically in small-scale fisheries as this industry is highly affected not only on a global level but domestically.

The Problem:
In Reel Deep identifies the correct practices small scale fisheries should
be employing in a child-like manner, in which it aims to educate the younger generation to engage in these practices to help the depleting fish numbers
due to overfishing. Home to 37% of the world’s marine species, Indonesia is the second-largest fishing nation with a population of 270 million eating more than three times as much fish and seafood as the global average.
Annually, Indonesia’s catch is over 7 million tons, with most being domestically consumed with little export. Raja Ampat, Indonesia, was chosen
as the location for this game because it has implemented zero-tolerance laws against destructive fishing practices since 2009. Raja Ampat is at the forefront of developing countries actively pursuing effective management strategies to improve the state of the country’s fish stocks and coral marine areas to ultimately project a sustainable future.
User Scenarios:
The target audience for In Reel Deep are young children aged 8-12. In Reel Deep can be used as a parental or educational tool for students and adults.
