Australian kids reimagined sharks and rays, and ten of the country’s best-known artists brought their drawings to life at the Australian Museum.

Australia is home to 25% of the world’s shark and ray species, with 530 unique varieties. Some are so rare and deep-dwelling that no images or research of them exist.

AMCS invited Australian children to reimagine these creatures with art, craft and pure imagination. The top artworks were reinterpreted by ten of Australia’s most renowned artists.

The works were showcased at the Fantastical Sharks and Rays exhibition at the Australian Museum. I contributed to the art direction and designed the exhibition’s informational walls, display panels and supporting social media assets, helping create a cohesive visual experience across physical and digital touchpoints.

The results speak for themselves.

  • 1,500 competition entries
  • 23K+ exhibition visitors
  • $119K of art auctioned for conservation
  • 10.5K+ petition signatures & letters to Parliament
  • New legislation now requires cameras on commercial fishing boats, and South Australia banned targeted fishing of three species.
